When your project requires plastic injection molded parts Metropolis can help with complete mold making and short run production capabilities in house. All mold design is performed in Surf Cam or Solidworks and is based off of your solid part file. No drawings are ever produced. All work is performed in the quickest most direct way possible to expedite the process. Because of this streamlined approach our typical mold project only requires two weeks to complete. Our CNC software and machinery helps us elevate your molding projects to levels unheard of in years past.
Aluminum molds are great for pre-production or limited production use. We guarantee most molds will produce 5,000 parts without any additional maintenance costs or delays. Aluminum is an excellent material in this application because of its free machining qualities, low cost and generous availability. Since total production will be limited the increased hardness of steel is not required.
Because our molds are entirely CNC machined part accuracy is excellent and typically is equal to a production mold. We will review and plan with you the materials you expect to run and plan for shrink, sink, gating, runners, venting and overall good part design. Occasionally there are features in a part that would typically be EDM machined. Since we CNC machine all mold components work arounds or small changes to the part design may be required. Post mold machining is also an option. Of course if no solution is available EDM is still available but will increase production time of the mold beyond the typical two weeks.
Plastic materials- We maintain on hand an inventory of standard materials such as ABS, Polycarbonate and Polypropylene. These materials come in clear, natural, black and white colors. Additional standard colors are available on a fairly broad basis. Custom colors are available on a limited basis and need to be planned for at the outset to ensure delays are avoided. Of course we can order the exact grade of material you desire and have it ready in time for your first article samples. Color matching on custom materials can be limited.
