Metropolis Design :: Urethane Casting

Urethane Casting:

Metropolis can cast your prototypes in urethane resins with properties that approach and sometimes exceed the properties of injection molded materials.

With hundreds of resins available we can typically meet your needs. Urethanes range from quick setting foams to rigid tough materials to slow curing clear flexible grades. Parts can be cast in color from water clear to tints to opaque colors.

The advantages of cast urethane prototypes include quick turn around (often less than 3 days), inexpensive tooling costs, tough durable materials, and thick and thin walls can be molded without sink. Unlike injection molded parts, cast urethanes are not as prone to sink as thermo plastics, and therefore are not as sensitive to wall thickness variations.

Metropolis will use glass filling to strengthen rigid urethanes and over molding to add soft-touch elastomers onto ABS-like housings and other prototypes. We often cast in place threaded fasteners, irregular bores, and features. We also build tooling and parts with undercuts and pulls that are very economical to replicate when compared to injection molding. Rotational Cast hollow parts are also available.
